            Welcome to the J. A. Leonard Middle School where our mission is empowering all students to grow as life-long learners and engage as 21st century citizens. We serve students in grade six, seven and eight from the communities of Old Town, Bradley and Alton.  LMS offers a dynamic standards based curriculum that empowers students to be self directed learners, complex thinkers and community contributors. 

Students are assigned to a two or three-person integrative teaching team for Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts. There is a special education case manager at each grade level and we also offer Title 1 Math and Literacy services.  In addition to core classes, students also have a dynamic allied arts offerings.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math )

LMS provides rich co-curricular and extra-curricular experiences to meet the developmental needs of our students.  We encourage all students to get connected.  Students can join the following co-curricular programs:
Civil Rights Team, Student Council, Builder’s Club, Garden Club, Math Team, Geography Bee, Spelling Bee, Coyote U, Black Bear Mentors & Tutoring

Students can try-out for the following extra-curricular programs:
Football (7th & 8th graders only), Boys’ Soccer, Girls’ Soccer, Field Hockey, Cross Country, Cheering, Girls’ Basketball, Boys’Basketball, Track, Softball, Baseball, Jazz Ensemble, Chorus & Lego Robotics

LMS focuses on authentic learning experiences for the unique academic, social and emotional needs of our middle schoolers. We are a highly responsive staff that differentiates for our students’ needs and keep a constant focus on continuous progress.
