March 24th RSU #34 Update for Alton Elementary School, Viola Rand School, Old Town Elementary School, Leonard Middle School, Old Town High School
Good afternoon RSU #34 Community,
Here are a few updates for our families. This week and next week are about connecting with families, trying to address resource needs, and encouraging kids to stay engaged. Please keep an eye out for our school busses delivering food - they start their routes at 10:30 AM and anyone ages 0-18 can pick up food at no cost. We do need someone to come out to the bus to receive the food. We’ll be maintaining the recommended 6 foot distance to keep you and us safe and SLOW THE SPREAD of COVID19.
Our staff are reaching out to families this week, trying to connect with each family. Please keep an eye out for calls that may be coming from unusual numbers or labeled “private” or “restricted” - and please return calls or emails. Staff may also be trying to drop things off like some learning resources; when we do this please help us keep the 6 foot physical distance that keeps you and us safe. We love a friendly wave and an air hug! Please don’t panic if your student is not connected to us yet - we’re testing things out and putting things in place for bigger remote school days.
Beginning April 6th we will shift from encouraged participation to expecting students to participate. We are working to get a combination of low-tech and higher-tech things to students. With the exception of college-level classes at Old Town High School, grades will not be recorded until at least April 27th.
Finally, the most important message for us all to remember is to do everything we can to SLOW THE SPREAD! The latest recommendations can be found from the Centers for Disease Control: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with questions. School offices are open from 8 to 2, with normal phone numbers, and our administrative team email addresses are all at www.rsu34.org
