RSU #34 hosted a regional Teaching & Leading Academy yesterday, with 140+ educators learning more about topics ranging from social-emotional learning to technology practices to assessment strategies. Thanks to Education Commissioner Pender Makin for keynoting our event!

Kid Power! Viola Rand School kindergartners helped install a new climbing net on their playground this morning.

Class of 2019! Tonight we celebrate 13 years of hard work by kids, educators, families, and community. Last night OTHS announced more than $1.2 MILLION in scholarships earned by the students. Many thanks to the contributors!

Congratulations to the OTHS students who shared their collaborative research at the GLOBE Science Symposium! Jacob, Zak, Amanda, and Brad joined students from the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast, answering questions from peers and professionals about their research. The students are mentored in this research by Mr. Lindsey, Mr. Murphy, and Ms. Crabtree. On her first-ever trip to Boston, Amanda brought home an award for her poster and presentation…what will she do on her second trip?

Congratulations to our Adult Education graduates, Class of 2019!

A reminder that our annual public budget meeting is Wednesday 5/29, 7 PM at Old Town High School. Your vote matters!

Mrs. Bailey's 6th graders became worm farmers today! Future squiggly generations will help out in the school and community gardens, and provide the start-up worms for some elementary habitats. The students were excited to set up the habitat and name their wriggly friends!

Congratulations to the RSU #34 Music Department! Our hard-working team was honored with the Dale F. Huff Outstanding Music Department award at this weekend's Maine Music Educators Conference. Check your school's website for upcoming concerts, and BRAVO!

Our students love learning to be citizens! Here 2nd grader Chloe and Kindergartner Lucas respectfully raise the flag to start the day at Viola Rand School.

Leonard Middle School sent three 7th graders to the "Big Gig Junior" at the Bangor Arts Exchange...all three - and Mrs. Tuttle - returned with awards! Congratulations to Jenelle, Bri, and Big Gig Jr. winner Zoe, inventor of "The Sharp Shovel."

Volunteers and community partners are a great part of our services to students in RSU #34! Last week at the UMaine Leadership Awards Mrs. Gifford, kindergartner Lucas, and Dr. Doty honored the volunteers from the BOKS (Building Our Kids' Success) program piloted at VRS!

Who says kids can't learn the day before vacation?!?

NO SCHOOL TODAY MONDAY APRIL 8TH IN RSU 34

While the track of the impending storm is not completely clear, it is clear we will deal with snow or a snow/rain mix tomorrow morning. We will be using the new notification system linked with Apptegy our website provider for the first time. The RSU #34 app can be downloaded in the Google Play Store or the iTunes store.
We had hoped to have the opportunity to use the new system with some low impact notifications for testing but it appears we will not have that opportunity.
Please monitor our website (www.rsu34.org) and WABI TV as a sure way to know the status of schools opening on Monday.
Please share this information within your social media network.
